Herry’s Story

Hey, I’m Herry! Born and raised on the tiny island of Nias in Sumatra, where the ocean was basically my babysitter. I hopped on my first surfboard at 7—if you can call a waterlogged plank a surfboard—and I think I spent more time in the water than on the land learning to catch waves and spearfishing.

Fast forward a few years, and here I am living my dream of teaching surfing in Bali. Five years ago, I packed my bags, said goodbye to Nias and moved to Bali—a paradise full of epic waves, good vibes, and way too many hippies and smoothie bowls. Every day here feels like an adventure…or at least an excuse to avoid wearing shoes.

Now I teach surfing, which means I get to laugh with (and sometimes at) my students while they try to conquer the waves. Don’t worry—it’s all part of the process! Whether you’ve never touched a surfboard or you’re already halfway to being the next Kelly Slater, I’ve got you covered. We’ll fall, we’ll fail, and eventually, we’ll catch a wave without swallowing a pint of water. You don’t need to be a champion, I just want you to have fun!
